In Praise of Techno-Crack

Hi. I'm Chrissy. And I'm a Nintendork.

Can't help it. And honestly, like television, it's one of those addictions everyone wants to deny. "I don't watch television" somehow became a battle cry for intellectualism-- or at the very least, pseudo-intellectualism-- when I was in high school. I never bought it. You can't imagine the sheer volume of cricket chirping one hears at a cocktail party when one gives the response "oh yeah, I LOVE tv." It's soooo not elegant, donchaknow.

Oh well. Neither am I. But I'd rather be cool... or at worst, happy... anyway.

And so, I will introduce you to one of my closest friends... my pink Nintendo DS Lite with Leopard Skin. Oh yeah... she's a beauty. I've got the matching furry covered carrying case with the extended pockets for games, too. Yep. And the earbuds.

Weirdly, most of the games I play on her are kinda nerdy and simple. I like the classic Sonic the Hedgehog. I like Super Black Bass Pro. I like Crosswords, My Word Coach, Solitaire Overload. The only "game head" game I have or it is Assassin's Creed. If you don't like Assassin's Creed we may not be able to be friends.

I mean, I'll try, but I don't know...

I just think that television, video games, and dorking around on the internet can be good things. And shunning technology in order to look more refined seems not only snobbish, but stupid.

You don't have to be hooked in like a character in The Matrix. You don't have to spend hours at a time zoning out with your gaze pinned to a portable gaming system. And now the Wii has exercise programs for it. Imagine that-- video games that are good for your health!

So yeah... I'm a user. I don't care for any pamphlets pointing me toward a 12 step recovery program, thanks. I like my pink pal. And I'm not ashamed of it.

So how about you? Any techno-crack in your life? Share!

  2. I love TV. And I don't care who knows it.

And I'm on my pc like 12 hours a day sometimes. Sad, I know. But occasionally I go outside and breath non-ac'd air.

I hate TV, there is never anything good on. I am occasionally seduced by Discovery Channel (mike rowe and bear grylls are HOT) but not much else.

Give me a good romance novel any day. You want to hear crickets chirping at a tony cocktail party? Quote Nora Roberts. ROTFLMAO

  6. Where do I even start? I'm a gadget-geek. I could go on for hours. Truly. But my fav is my itty-bitty Fujitsu Lifebook, a small tablet laptop that only weighs a few pounds and fits in my purse.
    Love at first keystroke, baby!

I don't have a problem, I swear. Doesn't everyone have screen protectors and extra styluses for their DS.

And let's not even mention that lovely little cell phone that allows me to check my email, update my blog, and post on Divas all while sitting in traffic or a boring meeting.

And I have a Wii Fit. Who would have ever thought I would get excited about standing on a piece of plastic and pretending to hula hoop. Maybe it is because I am exactly what I appear to be a sometimes horribly uncoordinated nerd. I have fallen off chairs, up stairs, and out of bed, but suddenly, I can snowboard, ski jump, box, and ski jump. I still can't do the step aerobics, but I can swivel my hips like no body's business.

  9. If I sit open the Unreal Tournament application on the PC, I will lose 3 days. So I rarely even go near the PC anymore just because of that. oh and Quake. God I loved Quake. The hub and I would log on to the gaming servers at the same time, get on the same team and wail on everyone else. It was awesome.

And Sims used to be that way for me, so I uninstalled it.

I heart TV. I watch way too much of it and DVR what I can't work into my schedule. I wish I didn't like being entertained so much. LOL

    Gee Mel, addictive personality much?
