Serial Reader

One of my favorite things in the world is finding a book series that I love...one that's already been out for a few years. You can read them back to back and you don't have to wait for eons for the next book.

The downside is that...you read them back to back and become really embroiled in the world and then...you feel bereft when you finish the last book. It's tough to leave them behind.

I discovered Rachel Caine last week. I started the first book in her Morganville Vampire series as an audio book. When I found out there were seven all together...well, let's just say I've been in Morganville all week. (I read the rest, listened to the first)

I loved the series. The characters were very real to me and I envy Ms. Caine's mastery of dialogue. But now, I'm bereft. The 8th book comes out in May. May!!! I have to wait three months.

I don't want to let go. I'm pouting. What if the 8th is the last one? I just am going nuts now. Take me back to Morganville.

So, what series sucked you in with its greedy teeth and won't let you go?

  1. The Harry Potter books, J. D. Robb's In Death series (30+ books now), and Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampires are the ones that come readily to mind for me. I'll cry like a baby when the latter 2 end, as I did for the end of Harry Potter.

Gemma Halliday's High Heels Mysteries, Perri O'Shaughnessy's Nina Reilly series, Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie Plum books, Anna Godbersen's LUXE books, Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy, Diana Peterfreund's Secret Society Girl series...and many others!

  3. Hahaha!!! I've done that for Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series. They're fun, light reads, and #3 leaves you kind of hanging! And I have no idea how long it'll be 'till #4 comes out, since I think she's still writing it.

Oh! And this isn't YA, but Lynn Kurland's new fantasy trilogy began last month, and I have to wait two years for the end of the story! ::groans:: At least I'll get the middle installment in only...10 months and 20-some days.

  7. It's not YA, but Lois McMaster Bujold's Barrayar series totally sucked me in...it's so good, and I've now read them all multiple times.

  8. Oh yeah, Twilight. I put off reading the series until like 2 weeks before book 4 came out. As much as I've always loved vampires, it just really didn't sound appealing to me.

Too bad I missed an entire family vacay to Block Island because I was holed up devouring the series the whole time, haha.

  9. I've read a lot of series, but the first one to convert me to absolute worshipful fangirlness was Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

Harry Potter, yep. House of Night. Dark Hunters and most of Kenyon's stuff. Anne Rice's Vampires... not crazy about the witches. Sharon Shinn's Archangel series, Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince and Star Scroll books (I miss those, but she was so obviously done).

    Err... too many?
