I gots the blues

Right now, I got the low-down, dirty, funky, rotten blues. Ever get like that, where you feel like things just don't seem to go the way you want or need them to? Whether it's reality or not, it's hard to shake the dumps when it hits you hard. And what's extra sucky is it affects everything you're doing--so even the stuff that's going great loses its lustor because of how crappy you feel.

I hate feeling this way. Therefore, I think some kind of therapeutic solution is called for right about now.

What do you do to get rid of the blues? I'm open to just about any tip/trick right about now. But I'd prefer suggestions that don't involve eating or spending gratuitous amounts of money. LOL

  1. I play music sometimes to lift my mood...try www.blip.fm...hang in there

  2. Hug a tree. Sit in a sheltered spot, under a tree and listen for birds; I'm presuming that the flowers aren't out yet where you are, but if I'm wrong, go smell some. Go over a couple pages of icanhascheezburger.

If all else fails, try the 'mountain stream meditation.'

Imagine yourself in the mountains, with birdsong and breezes rustling the pine trees and the stream gurgling at your feet. Look at the lovely clear water. It's so clear, that you can see the face of the person who's been getting on your nerves. You can feel the cold water on your hands as you hold their head under the water. Take a deep breath of the pine-scented air. Watch the bubbles come up out of their mouth. Giggle a little.

    There. Doesn't that feel better?

  3. Get some sun. Seriously. Studies have shown lack of sun during the winter can bum you out.

  4. Nesi--good call on the music.

    Sewicked--I'm dying laughing!

Kristen--no kidding. Cleveland hasn't had sunshine in a while. Hopefully tomorrow. *sigh*

  5. Here's your friendly reminder that when I go to Barnes and Noble I see a BOOK BY YOU on the shelves.

    Smile girl :)

  6. READ!! Throw yourself into a book--an old fave, and forget everything else for a while. Or work out/go for a long walk. That helps kick the endorphins back in!

    Feel better!!

  7. Get out and change the surroundings. Whenever I start feeling this way I force myself to be in a different place. Sameness drags you down. If you relocate to someplace unfamiliar for a little while you can at least become engaged and curious about new things.

If that fails I call a BFF.

Although... treating yourself to a matinee of a comedy and sitting in a dark theater with laughter around you works sometimes, too.

    It's March. Look for crocuses!

  8. Jamie--LOL, this is true. :D

Sara--yes, reading is awesome. I will have to try that.

Chrissy--that's a good idea...I'm gonna see what I can do about that.

  9. I pet my dog, read a book, and listen to music. Sometimes I'll play a video game if I really feel like it, but when I can't win, that makes me mad, so that doesn't always work.

  10. Going out of doors and doing something active can help, even if it isn't sunny.

Going to see a movie helps me sometimes! Maybe something colorful, like Avatar, or something happy.

Rereading a favorite book that transports you can help...

    Good luck, sweetie!!!

  13. Music definitely works for me also. Just make sure it's something upbeat! I was listening to The Fray a few days ago and that did wonders. Hard to go wrong with the latest Coldplay album either (strangely entitled - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends)
