Technology today seems all about social media. Yesterday someone somewhere mentioned that the average age of those who use Twitter was around 46. I have to say that really surprised me. And got me thinking.
Am I hipper than I thought?
I used to be on Myspace and while my page is still there, I haven't logged in in ages. Myspace seems like the horror movie trailer park of social media now. It's gaudy, run down and you just never know who's parked next door.
Now I focus on Twitter and Facebook, although to be honest, I mostly use Facebook for games and sending messages to far-away friends.
What social media do you use and what's your favorite?
I've actually been avoiding Twitter because I'm afraid once I start all my time will be sucked into tweeting. I do use Facebook, but minimally. If I'd thought about it beforehand, I would've set up two accounts - one for personal and one for networking. Now my personal contacts are jumbled up with my writing contacts.
ReplyDeleteIn college I did Facebook (and Myspace even though I hated the interface) now I twitter and blog and maybe log into facebook once or twice a week when someone adds me as a friend. It's strange how much my preferences changed in a few years! I'm 25.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my MySpace page kinda gets ignored. The poor thing. Right now, I love my plain old blog.
ReplyDeleteNo Twitter or Facebook for me. (Yet?)
I love Facebook! I get to keep up with all my old friends there. But I confess I'm hesitant to use Twitter...for fear that people will just be tweeting what they ate for lunch or how long it took to park. :-)
ReplyDeleteI adore Facebook. My real life Facebook pave gets more action than my writer one, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of Twitter. Maybe when I sell, but until that point, I can't afford the time-suckage.
I use both Twitter and Facebook and also ignore MySpace these days. It's too laborious. I have Digsby and Friendfeed, but mostly to make quick drive-bys that feed toward Twitter and Facebook.
ReplyDeleteAnd I blog. Facebook seems more active with friends than twitter, though.
I use Facebook and Twitter frequently--I find they're fun, quick ways to keep in touch with people.
ReplyDeleteI'm not on MySpace a whole lot, though I try to pop by at least once a month to update things on my page.
I also like to blog at least once or twice a week, depending on what's going on in my world. And of course, I post on our blog too. :D
I blog - facebook - and tweet.
ReplyDeleteSometimes just keeping up with the blogs I follow is overwhelming, and i just delete my unreads. (with the exception of Fictionistas here, of course)
Thank God for the Google Reader.
I love my blog and Twitter--without Twitter, I'd have no idea what's going on in the world, and especially in the publishing world. Don't have Myspace, and Facebook feels a little dead to me.
ReplyDeleteI love Twitter. I get the news first there. I have a MySpace but I haven't signed in in months. Have been meaning to delete. I have two facepages...One for my pen name and one with my legal name (for my non-writing friends). I visit facebook only a couple of times a week. My blogging is hit and miss. I might be better with a group blog but who knows.
ReplyDeleteLove that MySpace description. I'm there but like you rarely visit. I prefer twitter to Facebook but both have their
ReplyDeleteI didn't get Twitter the first time I tried it. Then I came back and now I love it. I'm still on MySpace, mainly because I still have a lot of readers there. Wish I'd done separate family and author Facebook pgs from the beginning, though, because when I tried to move readers over to a professional "fan" page, they balked. So, to keep my grandkidlet's posts and pics private, I started a new one just for her. But had I understood how it worked -- still don't quite because there are all those discussions going on on my wall -- I would've begun differently. I ignore my blog too much because I find days I write it, my book writing suffers for some reason. But plan to get back to that. Then again, I always say that. LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't even know why I'm still on myspace, lol. I got on it before I even started writing (to stay in touch with friends) but I eventually moved to facebook for that so myspace gets wildly ignored. I jumped on the twitter bandwagon and even though I'm still not sold on it, I did get a free book from Simon and Schuster b/c of a promo op I saw on twitter. I still like blogging the best :)
ReplyDeleteTwitter and FB (Vampire Wars) - very rarely log in to Myspace but I do post on it for contests and stuff because some people still use it regularly. I also blog.
ReplyDeleteThe average age on Twitter is 46? Does that mean I am too young to Twitter?
ReplyDeleteTwitter is estimated to be most popular among 35-50 year olds. There are younger people there, but more of that demographic is on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI love the twitter-not for promo--just for the water cooler feel.
