Once in a Blue Moon

You ever hear that phrase? "Once in a blue moon"

It means something rare. And today is one.

A blue moon is the second full moon in a month. Most years have twelve full moons, occur roughly monthly. But each solar calendar year contains an excess of roughly eleven days compared to the lunar year. the extra days accumulate, and every 2 or 3 years, we end up with a thirteenth full moon.

And this year, the Blue Moon happens to be on New Year's Eve, which is even rarer. The next time we'll see this is in 2028.

Happy New Year's everyone! Hope you have cool plans to coincide with the Blue Moon.

  2. Happy new year!!!

I live right near the Rose Parade myself, so my new year's eve will probably involve trying to find a non-blocked street to drive on, and looking at all the camp-outers... :-)

Oh fun, Cara! I did that my sophomore year of college, when I was dating a guy from La Canada. I went to Cali to visit him and we camped on the parade route. Very fun!

  5. Sigh. I missed it. It was overcast for a while. I think it cleared up later, but I wussed out and went to bed. LOL
