paraskavedekatriaphobia

You heard me.

Paraskavedekatriaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th.

I am not afraid of Friday or 13. In fact, I am generally not superstitious at all, but I find them interesting. For instance, did you know that the play "Macbeth" is supposedly cursed and it is considered bad luck to say the word "Macbeth" in a theater unless you are performing in the actual play? Or that in Sweden it is unlucky to place keys on a table? And in Russia, it is considered good luck to sit on your luggage before traveling? (But then, who doesn't have to sit on their luggage to close the zipper anyway?)

What about you? Do you have any good luck charms? Do you knock wood? Avoid ladders? Do you carefully avoid saying the word "pig" while on a ship? Tell me about your quirks.

  1. No real quirks or good luck charms. I don't believe in luck, really. What's going to happen is going to happen whether or not we know or understand the reason.

I do avoid spiders like the plague tho.

  2. My Nana was born on Friday the 13th, as was my godson. I consider it lucky.

    But then... I am weird.

If you ask any actor, "Macbeth" is "the Scottish play."

Speaking of bad luck, both Feb 12 and March 12 were very bad days in BigLaw Land, with many law firms doing mass layoffs. Needless to say, they did it on Thursday the 12th rather than Friday the 13th both times.

Oh, my Ukrainian grandma swears it's bad luck to put a hat on a bed. Or to tell someone about your dreams before having breakfast.

  5. WOW, that is wild. I didn't know that about Macbeth!

I have lots of quirks, but I'd rather not talk about them. haha
