A Blast from the Past

As you may or may not know, my debut YA, Codename: Dancer, will be released 2 weeks from today. (Gulp)

In preparation for the launch, I'm in the process of getting my website completely redesigned. (Yeah, I know, nothing like procrastination...)

Since the book features a teen ballerina, I decided maybe I should show the evidence that I did in fact dance when I was growing up. Of course, all those pics are at my parents' house more than 250 miles away, and not easily accessible.

So I asked my dad to scan some old family photos for me. I received the results yesterday by email. Some of them are quite hilarious. Dad went overboard and scanned more than I asked for. I don't have room to include them all on my new website, but I can include them here, right?

For some reason, he didn't include any dance pics of me as an older teen. Not sure why. They seem to run through my early-to-mid-teens. Maybe 15 towards the end. (And sadly, you can see that I remained rather flat-chested for quite a long time. Something I share in common with Codename's heroine, Dani.)

I'm going to try to ask some friends on Facebook if they have any old dance pics of me, particularly from my ballroom dance team days in college.

Alas, no prom pic (a Fictionistas fave!) but we've got a nice representation of stellar 70s, 80s, and 90s hair for your Wednesday entertainment.

  1. Awww, weren't you just too freaking adorable! Love the pictures, Amanda. I stopped growing in the sixth grade. Yeah, flat chested then, flat chested now. Oh well, at least my shirts rarely gape, and I can wear lowcut tops without looking like a skank. That's something to cheer about.

  4. Great pics!!! I still dance now (33 years old) and I love it. It's an adult jazz class but we still do some pretty complex routines!

  5. Thanks!

Stephanie, I still dance, too. (33, but I'll be 34 in a month.) Well, I did until breaking my toe a couple of weeks ago. I hope to get back to it soon. It's a weekly adult ballet class, and it's a lot of fun!

  6. You've been gorgeous from day one, Amanda. Those danceshots are fabulous! I can't wait to download your book. Guess I'll have to loan my Kindle to my daughter, too. Congrats. Hope that toe heals up quickly.

  11. Aw, so kewt, Amanda. I love that fetching yellow frock. I'm thinking of taking adult ballet classes--but there will be *noooo* pictures to document that. :)

  12. LOL, Vanessa. Yeah, I don't have the pics to document my adult ballet classes. Let's just say that I'm nowhere near as slim as I was as a teen. I have no desire for you to see me in a leotard these days. LOL!
