If the television ate you...

If you woke up trapped in a television show tomorrow--which one would you hope it was and why? And what kinds of trouble would you cause?

This was a tough one for me--partly because I don't watch TV much.
And partly because the shows I like would be really detrimental to my health. I love Joss Whedon's shows more than anything--but I do NOT want to live in Sunnydale. Ever. Especially as an adult because very few of them had a clue about the little things--like vampires and werewolves. And then Angel turned Los Angeles into an apocalypse. And Serenity is a great ship--but Reavers are a big, fat NO for me, thanks.

House MD? Are you kidding me? I love that show, but I don't want to be the first patient who really does have Lupus.

Bones? If I could just hang out with Agent Booth all day fine. If I have to look at corpses and sludgey insides of people that are now on the outsides of people, I'll pass.

Friends? Okay--but of course they've all moved now, so it would be pretty boring hanging out on the couch at Central Perk by myself all day.

Veronica Mars? She'd be fun to pal around with--and likely would smart enough to help me get back home. But I think she'd get tired of me trying to get her back together with Logan all the time. I know he's not perfect--but COME ON. Do you think anyone will ever love her more than he does?

But there is one show that I used to fantasize about. One show that is much a part of my childhood as mud pies and Garanimals. It was the one place that I could escape to, in my head, when there were things I didn't want to wrap my childhood mind around. When things got tough, I could sing....."Think I'll go for a walk outside now, the summer sun's callin my name...." and pretend I was a Brady.

Yes. I think if I HAD to get stuck in a tv show, chances are good that I'd still pick the Brady Bunch. It's a little sad. Especially considering the unfortunate amount of Polyester I would have to wear.

As an aside, I'd really like to have a little talk with Mike. Seriously--you are some bigwig architect, Mr. Brady. Did you ever think about designing a house with more bedrooms for your six kids and live-in maid?

So, now that I'm an honorary Silver Platter (sha na na na na na na na na, sha na na na na), what show will you end up on?

Favorite TV couples

I almost went with a Friday the 13th post, just to be contrary--but I try to only be contrary with my husband., so I'm talking TV couples today!
In no particular order these are some of my faves:
Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls
Veronica Mars

I was so surprised when they first kissed. I totally did not see it coming. And then I kept waiting for it to be a trick he was playing--because he was so very, very bad. But turns out, he really loved her. And in the Season Four in my head (since the show got axed in three), they get back together. Don't try and change my mind either.

Jack Devereux and Jennifer Horton
Days of Our Lives

Maybe I just like couples that argue all the time. Jack and Jenn were my fave couple in the late 80's early 90's...back when I worked nights and could watch soaps during the day. I loved the fact that they were so opposite and so obviously wrong for each other. I got a little weary of all the strange adventures on deserted islands and wilderness scenes...but whenever he accidentally let his vulnerable side show my heart would break. I really love their chemistry, but I don't think they are on the show anymore.

Buffy and Angel

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

*sigh*
I was never a Spike fan. Sorry fans. Angel and Buffy just...well...he's another one who breaks my heart. He was so much more tortured. I wonder if she's done being cookie dough yet.

So...who are some of your favorite TV couples? (you probably have more than me, I don't watch much tv)

I've been simming

I think I have compulsion issues.

I realized it might be a problem when I haven't written a word in a week, yet I've managed to stay up late every night playing the Sims 2. It's like once I get hooked into something, I cannot seem to make myself do anything else.

When I watch TV, it's on DVD and I tend to watch the episodes back to back to back. I discovered House earlier this year and my husband and I watched all available seasons in about two months. And do not get me started on Buffy the Vampire Slayer again. I completely disappear from civilization.

I got on an 80's movie kick not too long ago. And when I feel like knitting, I knit non-stop for a week or two and then want nothing to do with it for a year or so.

It's like I don't understand moderation.

So as I sign off to go play with my pixelated people (I'm breeding dogs to see if the puppy will look like Wiley), I'll leave you with this question: Do you get obsessed with your hobbies and get sucked in until you burn out? Or are you able to set aside a certain amount of time for your distractions so that you can still function in the workplace, school, or in your family?

P.S. I did manage to get my act together enough to be a proper guest blogger at Killer Fiction Blog on Saturday the 24th. Please come say hi.

Love/Hate Relationships

First of all, let me start this post with a shout-out to one of my fellow Fictionistas: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RHONDA!!!

Okay, confession time. Unlike most people, I was never on the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer bandwagon. I tend to resist popular things. Don't know why, I just do. However, after falling in love with Firefly and the recent Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, my taste for more Joss Whedon enterprises (and the ever-delicious David Boreanaz) led me to Hulu, a site that lets you watch some TV and movie for free. In the course of a few days, I devoured the first two seasons of Buffy.

I watched the last episode of season two last night. And wept like a little girl. My heart was broken. Why? I'm spoiler protecting this next part in case you haven't seen the show yet either: Because Buffy had to kill Angel, the only man she'd ever loved, to save the world.

At once, I both loved and hated Joss for what he'd made me feel. The way he'd twisted my emotions and drawn me in and made me care. And hurt. At that point, Romeo and Juliet made perfect sense. I wanted a do-over, a differnt ending, an HEA for everyone. I was mad. But I wanted more. (And can I say, I can completely understand the reason for fanfic now? I mean, I'm already rewriting that ending in my head.)

It's a rare show/book/movie that does that to me. Joss seems to do it over and over - I should know to expect it, and I kind of do, but I still hope things will go differently. Has anything ever had that effect on you? What's your reaction to that kind of thing?
