happy National VCR day!

Seriously, do any of y'all even know what a VCR is anymore? I actually still own one. I'm pretty sure it works. I only own 2 VCR tapes: Bridget Jones Diary (also have the DVD) and the original Little Mermaid with the banned cover.

Other things we can celebrate this week?

June 7th
Daniel Boone Day
Dean Martin's Birthday

June 8th
Upsy-Daisy Day (everyone wake up happy!)
Bill of Rights Anniversary
Frank Lloyd Wright's Birthday

June 9th
Donald Duck's Birthday!

June 10th
Anniversary of the Ball Point Pen (w00t!)
Maurice Sendak's Birthday (let the wild rumpus begin!)

June 11th
Corn on the Cob day (I don't know about you, but I know how I'm gonna
celebrate...)
King Kamehameha I Day (Hawaii)

June 12th
Crowed Nest Awareness Day (when adults move back in with their parents or when grandparents are left to raise the grandchildren.)
Anne Frank's Birthday

So what are you planning to celebrate this week? I'm really going to hit Corn on the Cob day with both barrels. Yum.

at the movies

I heart going to the movies...and I'm one of those people who wants to get to the movie in time for the previews. (BTW, we went to see Kick-Ass the movie and it was actually pretty darn kick ass! And it's rated R for language and violence but if you're a mature 15 you should totally go see it...with parental permission of course)

I'm really looking forward to the following movies:

MaGruber!

You know I'm a huge fan of the SNL skit...and I've heard from a good authority (someone who's already seen a sneak preview) that this movie is AWESOME. So on May 21...I'll be enjoying the awesome with other like minded individuals...

Killers

KILLERS: Movie Trailer - Watch more top selected videos about: Movie_Trailers, Killers_(2010_film), Catherine_O'Hara, Tom_Selleck, Katherine_Heigl, Ashton_Kutcher, Katheryn_Winnick, Rob_Riggle, KILLERS, Robert_Luketic

Ashton Kutcher (looking yummy and ripped)and Katherine Heigel. This has the potential of being LOL funny. I hope it's not disappointing.

The Expendables:

THE EXPENDABLES: Movie Trailer - Watch more top selected videos about: The_Expendables_(2010_film), Jason_Statham, Sylvester_Stallone, Jet_Li, Arnold_Schwarzenegger, Bruce_Willis, Danny_Trejo, Dolph_Lundgren, The_Expendables

Holy cow! With this cast this movie is either going to be made of awesome, or a train wreck that you can't look away from. Either way, I'm there!

What movies are you looking forward to?

the Olympics are FINALLY over

Thank Goodness.

I accidentally watched the olympics this year once when I was at a bar and they had Curling on TV. Um. Yeah. this SNL skit sums it up perfectly for me:

I wanna like Curling...but really, it just looks like they're sweeping. And I do enough of that at home, so I'll pass. Thanks.

I really don't enjoy the winter Olympics at all. I know I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't and I'm sure y'all are throwing virtual tomatoes as I type this, but I can't help it. They bore the crap outta me...and I'm always cold when I watch.

I'm never happy when I'm cold.

So now we can get back to regular TV and I can be happy again.

Carry on.

weird food

My dad will open a can of peaches and then crumble Oreos over them. It is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen, but he loves it.

One of my favorite sandwiches on earth is a bacon sandwich. BUT it has to be prepared a specific way. White bread. Mayo and ketchup mixed together on one slice. Mustard and American cheese on the other. Good crispy bacon in between.

Best sandwich ever but a lot of people find it disgusting.

I also prefer to drink a big cold glass of milk with my pizza. Nobody gets that either.

Tell me: what food do you eat that others find weird?

McWTF

19 year old Lauren McClusky started a charity to raise money for the Chicago chapter of the Special Olympics, and so far has raised $30,000.

Too bad she's had to spend $5,000 of that money on legal fees because she's being sued by McDonald's for trademark infringement because she's calling the event McFest.

Um, her last name is McClusky....remember?

Why is McDonald's being such a bully here? They say they are required by law to "guard against third parties that infringe our trademarks." but c'mon! isn't this overkill?

Dear McDonald's,

My maiden name was McKenzie, would you like to sue me as well? I think you guys McSuck and I think you should McSTFU and leave Lauren McClusky and her pretty awesome charity event McAlone. McGot it?

McLove,
Melissa McKenzie Francis

Head Start on Holiday Shopping

Have you started your Christmas/Hannukah/Yule shopping yet? I'm starting to poke around the weekend flyers. I love holiday shopping, even in lean years. When my youngest brother and I were the last two at home we used to have a contest to see who could find the cheapest gift for one relative we didn't like that much. It had to LOOK as if it cost as normal amount, but whomever managed to find the cheapest bit of nonsense that would not be blatantly insulting won the round for that year. I believe the all-time winner was a fake ivory elephant figurine with gold tusks for a dollar.

Good times... good times...

I haven't made my own wish list yet. Normally there's a predictible request for books and book store gift cards, but this year (since September, anyhow), I have finally amassed an actual TBR pile. This is a new phenomenon for me-- books were never "to be read" until now. I plowed through four or five novels a week until this little sluggish patch. So I may not be doing many books this year. I know one I have read and loved, sure to top my giving list... and another I will be curled up with on December 22nd with a cup of hot chocolate.

Just in case you are looking for ideas...
